Variasi Campur Kode Arab-Indonesia dalam Dialog Serial Arab Maklum: Kajian Sosiolinguistik Pieter Musyken

Abstract

Language diversity is reflected in the use of various forms of language in everyday communication, one of which is the occurrence of Arabic-Indonesian code-mixing in the dialogue of the Arab Maklum series, which is an interesting phenomenon to investigate. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of Arabic-Indonesian code-mixing in the Arab Maklum series from the perspective of Pieter Muysken’s typology, further examining its forms, functions, and underlying factors in the dialogues among the characters. This study employs a qualitative approach using an analytical study design. Data were collected through observation and note-taking techniques. Data analysis followed a systematic procedure adapted from the flow model proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, consisting of editing, organizing, and finding. The findings reveal that the insertion typology is the most dominant type used in the characters’ dialogues, as evidenced by 5S8 instances. This finding indicates that Arabic-Indonesian code-mixing in the everyday communication of the characters in the Arab Maklum series serves four main sociolinguistic functions: facilitating social interaction, expressing emotions, directing the actions of interlocutors, and clarifying messages to ensure that they are effectively conveyed and properly understood.
