As an open-access academic journal, Al Qalam recognizes the importance of maintaining a reliable digital preservation system to safeguard research articles and ensure their continued availability to the academic community, even in the event of technical disruptions, website failures, or discontinuation of journal publication.

Digital Preservation Through LOCKSS

The journal utilizes the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system as its digital archiving and preservation mechanism. LOCKSS is a distributed digital preservation system designed to enable participating libraries and institutions to preserve scholarly publications through the creation of multiple independent copies of digital content. This decentralized approach helps protect published materials against accidental data loss, technical failures, and other risks that could affect long-term access.

Through the LOCKSS system, participating libraries can collect, store, and preserve authorized journal content within a distributed archival network. The system incorporates mechanisms for verifying the integrity of preserved materials and recovering damaged or missing content from available archival copies. This approach supports the authenticity, reliability, and long-term preservation of scholarly publications.

Long-Term Accessibility and Archival Continuity
